Disputes & Disciplinary Process
v1.0
Dublin Padel League (DPL) Disputes & Disciplinary Process
September 2025 · v1.0
1. Purpose
This document sets out how disputes, complaints, and disciplinary matters are raised, investigated, and resolved within the Dublin Padel League. The aim is to ensure all matters are handled fairly, consistently, and promptly.
2. Types of Issues
2.1 Disputes
A dispute arises when there is a disagreement between two parties over a factual or procedural matter. Common disputes include:
- Disagreement over match results or scores
- Fixture scheduling or postponement disagreements
- Player eligibility challenges
- Failure to submit a Fixture Report on time
- Conduct of the home team (e.g. not providing courts or balls)
2.2 Complaints
A complaint arises when a participant believes a rule, policy, or code has been violated. Common complaints include:
- Unsportsmanlike or abusive behaviour on or off court
- Alleged breaches of the Code of Conduct
- Discrimination or harassment
- Deliberate manipulation of a match result
3. Step 1 — Resolution at Team Level
3.1 In the first instance, team captains should attempt to resolve disputes or complaints directly and respectfully between themselves.
3.2 If a complaint involves on-court conduct during a match, the relevant captain should raise it with the opposing captain at the time or immediately after the match, before the Fixture Report is signed.
3.3 Any concerns noted at the time of the match should be recorded on the Fixture Report before both captains sign it.
4. Step 2 — Formal Submission to the DPL Committee
4.1 If a matter cannot be resolved at team level, either captain (or an individual player, in the case of a personal conduct complaint) may escalate it to the DPL Committee.
4.2 The submission must be made in writing (email is acceptable) and must include:
- The name of the submitting party and their club
- The date and fixture the matter relates to
- A clear description of the issue
- Any supporting evidence (e.g. screenshots, witness accounts, match sheet)
4.3 Submissions must be made within 5 days of the incident or fixture in question. Late submissions may not be considered unless exceptional circumstances are demonstrated.
5. Step 3 — DPL Committee Review
5.1 Upon receiving a formal submission, the DPL Committee will:
- Acknowledge receipt within 2 working days
- Request a written response from the other party within 5 days
- Review all available evidence
5.2 Both parties will have an equal opportunity to present their account. The Committee will not make a ruling based solely on one party's account.
5.3 The Committee may request additional information or clarification from either party, or from any witnesses or club contacts.
5.4 The Committee will issue a written ruling within 14 days of receiving all submissions. In complex cases, this may be extended with notice to both parties.
6. Possible Outcomes
6.1 For disputes, the Committee may:
- Uphold or reject the dispute
- Order a match to be replayed
- Award points or sets to a team
- Amend the standings accordingly
6.2 For conduct complaints, the Committee may issue:
- A formal warning or reprimand
- A points deduction for the team
- A match suspension for the individual(s) involved
- A season suspension
- Permanent exclusion from the league
- Referral to appropriate authorities in serious cases
6.3 The severity of any sanction will be proportionate to the nature and seriousness of the violation, and whether the party has a prior record of similar conduct.
7. Appeals
7.1 Either party may appeal the Committee's ruling within 7 days of the decision being issued.
7.2 An appeal must be submitted in writing and must clearly state the grounds for appeal. Grounds for appeal include:
- New evidence that was not available at the time of the original ruling
- A procedural error in the Committee's process
- A ruling that is clearly disproportionate to the violation
7.3 The Committee will review appeals and issue a final decision within 14 days. The Committee's decision on appeal is final.
8. Confidentiality
8.1 All submissions, evidence, and rulings will be treated confidentially. Details of disciplinary matters will not be shared publicly unless required by law or where the Committee deems it necessary in the interests of the league.
8.2 Both parties are expected to keep the matter confidential during the review process.
9. Contact
All dispute and complaint submissions should be directed to the DPL Committee via the official league contact details.
